Merzouga Dune Sunrise Camel Trek – Erg Chebbi from Marrakech

You begin early, leaving Marrakech's medina behind and heading southeast toward the High Atlas. The Tizi n'Tichka pass rises to 2,260 meters, offering views across the mountain spine that divides northern and southern Morocco. By mid-afternoon, you descend into the pre-desert landscape — olive groves give way to sparse vegetation and rock. Dinner and overnight in Midelt, a pleasant town in the mountain foothills. The landscape opens up. Today's drive follows the road toward Erfoud, passing through the Ziz Valley with its green palmeries and the quiet town of Erfoud itself, famous for its fossils. Late afternoon, you reach Merzouga, the gateway to Erg Chebbi. Check into your desert camp on the edge of the dunes. An optional short camel ride at sunset orients you to the camels and the sand. Dinner is prepared in the camp's kitchen tent. Sleep under the stars in your private Bedouin-style tent. Distance: approximately 340 km; driving time: 6-7 hours.
